‘Where's the Town?’ is a grass roots effort that grew out of Marie Younkin-Waldman's great
concern for the condition of the Narragansett Pier marketplace area and the fact that there is no
viable center of town or sense of community in Narragansett.
A resident of Narragansett for forty years, Marie has raised four adult children who loved the
schools and recreational features of Narragansett. Although coming from another area
originally, she feels strongly that Narragansett is her "home town" only she wishes to locate the
town! A town has energy, movement and residents meeting one another, talking to each other
and connecting as well as busy shops and stores. Marie would like to see this happen year
round in Narragansett so she has planned a meeting for the public at the town library on
Thursday, November 17th at 6:30 PM. To prepare for the meeting Marie has been talking and
listening to many people from all backgrounds, town officials, businessmen and professionals
as well as citizens who just plain love it here.
The energy is mounting and Marie hopes to create a committee at the meeting which will move
forward in a positive fashion to encourage all those who own property in the Pier area to
consider the fresh ideas about building a vibrant, attractive, pedestrian, and bicycle-friendly
town in the Pier area. Small is beautiful is the theme these days and Marie believes that
developing a beautiful center in Narragansett could be a real trendsetter for the rest of the state
and put Narragansett on the map. But most of all a year round center would make the people of
Narragansett happy.
